A City-Dweller's Guide through Nature ist eine interaktive Skulpturenserie, die aus baumzweigähnlichen Formen aus Keramik besteht, die auf Aluminiumgeländer montiert sind. Diese Geländer sind dazu bestimmt, von den Besuchern berührt zu werden. Mit diesen Arbeiten wird eine pseudo-anthroposophische Praxis umgesetzt. Die Geländer variieren in Form und Struktur, um natürliche Oberflächen zu simulieren. Dennoch werden sie durch ihre unnatürliche Erscheinung von ihrer Materialität verfremdet. Dadurch wird ein aktiver Fokus auf sie gelegt und der Anreiz zum Festhalten und Wahrnehmen von "Natur" geschaffen. Sie dienen lediglich als Mittel, um eine Plattform zu schaffen, durch die das Bewusstsein für die Natur angeregt wird.
A City-Dweller’s Guide through Nature is an interactive sculptural series consisting of ceramic tree branch-like shapes mounted on aluminium railings. These railings are meant to be touched by visitors. A pseudo-anthroposophical practice is implemented with these works. The railings vary in form and structure meant to simulate natural surfaces. Yet they are alienated from their materiality through their un-natural appearance. Through this, an active focus is placed on them, as well as on the incentive to hold on and take notice of “nature”. They simply act as a means to create a platform through which awareness for nature is stimulated.
Nils Blau ist bildender Künstler, der in Berlin lebt und arbeitet. Er studierte an der Universität der Künste Berlin bis 2021. In seiner Arbeit beschäftigt er sich mit der Dichotomie der Natur und des Konstrukts. Ein wiederholendes Thema ist die Hybridität einer anthropozentrischen Umwelt. Die Visualisierung der damit einhergehenden Theorien ist geprägt durch die Spezifizität des Materials.
Nils Blau is an artist living and working in Berlin. He studied Fine Arts at the University of Arts Berlin until 2021. His work generally revolves around the dichotomy of nature and construct, with the hybridity of a humanized environment being a reoccurring theme. The process of unveiling and dissecting theories circulating this topic is translated visually through the specificity of materiality.
